Hiking and excursions

The Yli-Kaitala premises with its beautiful lakeshore offers wonderful opportunities as a home base for hiking and small excursions. You can visit, for example a Lapp hut, a traditional simple Lapp lean-to or the fishing and hiking base of Harakkakoski. The stunning lake and river landscapes are best seen by boat. We also have walking and skiing tracks (length: 5-8 km) that weave through the tranquil, pristine Finnish forests.

Repovesi National Park, the 'Finnish Trekking Destination of 2012', is located only a one-hour drive from Yli-Kaitala. Repovesi is known for its natural beauty and many sights - you can visit them on your own or take part in a guided trip.

You can also take a day trip to Verla Groundwood and Board Mill, set in an idyllic village. There you can see rock paintings that are 7,000 years old and visit the Mill Museum, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996. The museum has been preserved as it was the day it stopped working in 1964.

But there is no need to drive anywhere as there are plenty of opportunities for activities right here in Yli-Kaitala. Nowadays you can also test your skills in photo hunting and geo-caching. Ask us for more information!
